Conclusion

All in all, skiing is amazing! I am sure that after reading this blog you know much more about skiing than you did before. Admit it, you didn’t know about at least one of the fun facts I told you. I can’t say I didn’t learn anything from writing this blog. I may have been on a skiing trip a couple of times; I didn’t know that much about skiing before I wrote this. For example, now I know more about the best places to ski, and what to look out for when booking a skiing holiday. I was kind of surprised while reading some of the fun facts. I didn’t write down all of them on this blog, but some stuff about skiing is pretty amazing!

The last thing I have to say, is that you should definitely go on a skiing trip, especially if you’ve never been on one. It is an amazing experience, and after reading this blog you shouldn’t have any problems choosing a destination. Have fun skiing! Bye!

Information about skiing

On this page I will give you some info about skiing and share some of my experiences.

I am sure you already know what skiing is, or else you wouldn’t be here. That means I don’t have to explain to you that skiing is going of a snowy mountain while your feet are standing on planks and you are holding two sticks. Oh well, I just did. If you had absolutely no clue about what skiing is, which would be really weird by the way, now you do! Since this page has to be 400 or more words, and I can’t talk that much about my experiences, here are some fun facts about skiing and skiers!

Did you know, that the word ski comes from the Norwegian word skíð, which means a split piece of wood?

Did you know, that the oldest skis of the world that ever have been found, are from 6000 BC? They were found close to Lake Sindor in Russia.

Did you know, that the first winter Olympics (the Olympics for winter sports, such as skiing) was hold in January 1924 in Chamonix?

Did you know, that every year, about 350.000.000 people from all over the world visit ski resorts?

Did you know, that the most visited ski resort in the world, is La Plagne, a large winter sports area in the French alps?

Did you know, that the record for the world’s longest ski jump is in the name of Stefan Kraft? He jumped 832 feet (253.5 meters)! The Eiffel Tower is about 1000 feet high, so imagine that if the Eiffel Tower would fall over, this guy can almost jump over it!

Those where the fun facts, now let’s move on to my experiences.

The first time I went on a skiing trip was when I was 10 years old, in 2016. I had an amazing holiday and I instantly loved to ski. Since then we (me and my dad, and since last year also my best friend) went skiing every year. That first time we went to Austria. The year after that we went to Andorra, the next year we went to Austria (again), and last year we went to France. This year we are going to Austria for the third time. I would definitely say that Austria is the best country to go to, because it has grate slopes (in my opinion) and the atmosphere is really cosy. What I like about skiing is for one the atmosphere on the slopes, but also in the hotels and the restaurants and cafés. The second thing is that I really like the feeling you get when you ski down that mountain, like you are in a roller coaster, or like you can do everything in the world. You also get a lot of beautiful views, and it is a great way to meet people that are interested in the same stuff as you!

I hope that you learned something while reading this, and that you are even more exited for your next skiing trip!

*The list with skiing destinations is on the page called list of destinations*

Introduction

Hey! Welcome to my new blog!

My name is Nola, and this is the first blog I ever wrote. I am from Utrecht, a city in the Netherlands. I am thirteen years old, and I am in high school. I am writing this blog, because it is an assignment for my English class. We have to choose a topic and write a blog about it individually. The topic I chose is skiing. I want to give you some information about it and share some of my experiences. And I want to make a short list with the best places to ski in Europe, including some extra information, for example about how to get there and if there are ski lessons available. We also had to pick a research question. My research question is: what are the best skiing destinations in Europe? The reason I chose this topic is because I really like skiing, and I would like you to enjoy it as much as I do.

So, have fun reading this blog, and I hope I will see you on the pist next year!
